Rumors that Basil Thornton was arrested for being the man behind Tyrrel and that you acted inappropriately.” So he just threw that out at the end. Inappropriate behavior. Was he meaning the fire? Oh, she hoped not. Her throat constricted. “I contacted Sir Kennaway, but so far he has not returned my inquiry.” “Father—” “I knew when I sent you to Odell that it was a fantasy. You fall in love with a knight and live happily ever after in a castle—what was I thinking.”

My sample is from The Case of the Puppet Constable. Available for only 99 cents at Amazon. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01DG19DFW “Congratulations on a job well done, Constable Roskin.” Emmett turned at the deep baritone of Fortescue Cunning. The young fellow had recently received the title of Baron of Eure. Lucky bloke. Cunning sipped at a glass of sherry and Emmett’s collar tightened like a noose about his neck. Few in high society knew of his past, fewer still would dare to share it about the ton, but Cunning wasn’t one of them. He’d sell his mother’s soul to the devil if he thought he’d make a pence. Did he know? “Do tell me how you discovered Tyrrel’s involvement in stealing the Crusader’s Cross.” Emmett pointed a trembling finger in Hesper’s direction. Confidence, he needed to display more confidence. “Ah, so the self-absorbed Miss Rotherham brought the plot to your attention.” The statement held the hint of a question. Emmett swallowed and nodded. His lips quivered. “Aye.” 1/20/2017 7 Comments Fast Fiction FridayWelcome back to Fast Fiction Friday! Since the loss of the cross she has refused to even part the draperies.” The footman’s whispered speech was accentuated by his bobbing head. Justin flashed an “I told you so look” and felt immediate regret. Magnolia lifted her chin, rotated her head, and smacked him with the plumage from her hat. He brushed feathers from his mouth even as his lips twitched at the corners. Sassy little woman. He had indeed missed her companionship. 1/13/2017 17 Comments Fast Fiction FridayWelcome back to Fast Fiction Friday! https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01NA6TXKT Something ran past his leg and he jumped. He might have squealed, but he hoped not. He didn’t want to lose his man card. He looked back and forth to make sure no one saw him. Uh-oh. A girl, not more than three feet tall, stood before him. Maybe he should reach out and test to see if she was corporal or not. He really needed to get a grip. “Kitty?” She spoke. He wasn’t sure whether to be relieved or worried. Her lower lip trembled. Now he was in real trouble. It wasn’t a ghost but a crying girl. 12/23/2016 0 Comments Fast Fiction FridayWelcome back to Fast Fiction Friday! This is the last novella in the “Justice” and Miss Quinn Mystery series. One finger pointed to the sky. “But of course! I just push a button and my rigging springs out and the sails catch! Then the ship is on its way.” “A button?” She swallowed. “But of course! Do you wish to see?” “Are we ready for the button?” Justin knew he wasn’t ready. And the ship had only narrowly escaped the dock. Shouldn’t they be farther out to sea before the sails were lifted? Captain Drake massaged his chin. “It is highly irregular to use it so close to shore, but I don’t see what it could hurt.” Magnolia lifted her arm out, but it was too late. 12/16/2016 0 Comments Fast Fiction FridayWelcome back to Fast Fiction Friday! I know when you first started this company you did every job, even interviewing potential employees.” He quirked his brow. “You read my book?” She shrugged. He was paying attention. She hoped she didn’t mess this up. “Of course. My favorite part was how your mother encouraged you to start your business even after you lost everything the first time you tried. It must have been wonderful to have such an inspiring and encouraging mother.” “Did you not have an encouraging mother?” She shouldn’t have strayed away from the subject. Hadn’t experience taught her better? “Not exactly.” He acted as if he meant to speak more, but she interrupted. “I’ll await your call.” 12/9/2016 11 Comments Fast Fiction FridayWelcome back to Fast Fiction Friday! Today he listened but he didn’t sing along. Because today wasn’t his normal day. Melody Watkins. Beautiful, sophisticated lady who hadn’t thrown him under the bus when she’d been given a chance in the breakroom. He’d agreed to drive her to work. Why, he had no idea. This wasn’t in the plan. The plan was to join the missionary team. That was what he was called to do. But Beverly had asked, and without even putting her name with her face, he’d asked for an address and directions. What had he been thinking? 12/2/2016 0 Comments Fast Fiction FridayI took Thanksgiving week off, but now I’m back! Welcome back to Fast Fiction Friday! What was she going to do about tomorrow? She didn’t have a ride to work. But she couldn’t let Jacie down. She couldn’t let herself down. If she had to she would walk. Her legs would go numb after the first couple of miles, but she would get there one way or the other. She lay down and pulled one quilt over her shoulders. Maybe if she just closed her eyes for a second then when she opened them something would come to mind. Her lids fluttered downward and she hid a yawn behind her hand. She hadn’t prayed in a really long time. Her stepmother had said God didn’t listen to sinners and that she was one of the worst ones. But maybe, just maybe. “God, could you send me help?” 11/18/2016 18 Comments Fast Fiction FridayWelcome back to Fast Fiction Friday! To be honest he was just cute. Which was something she should avoid like the plague. Cute always got her in trouble. And sweet, she couldn’t forget sweet. “Chloe, we just met this morning when I-I—” “When he bumped into me while trying to enter the garage elevator. Apparently two people can’t go in at the same time.” They didn’t need to know about their first run in. She’d promised not to hold that one over him, even if her shoulder still pained a little. It was true that they had been jostled and bumped into that elevator. The amount of people had surely exceeded the weight limit. And the smell, if not for Joshua’s body spray she would have been unable to breathe. 11/11/2016 3 Comments Fast Fiction FridayWelcome back to Fast Fiction Friday! Miss Quinn was warming to him. That was nice. He couldn’t wait to see her in the gown he’d picked out. Maybe she would like to join him for dinner in the afternoon. He could run everyone into the hold and create an atmosphere of romance on the main deck. It would have been easier if he requested his own quarters, but he would keep with her wishes—for now. Soon enough she would be begging for him to come to her room. “Captain Shelby?” He cringed. Would Cunning never leave him be? His companion tensed. Perhaps she wasn’t comfortable being seen in her state. “You hurry along and I’ll have everything prepared for you.” She hesitated. “Go along now. We can have our walk later.” |
