I give this 3.5 stars which is between liked and really liked.
Received a copy for review through Paranormal Wastelands “Winter’s Light” by M.J. Hearle is the sequel to “Winter’s Shadow.” This is a YA paranormal novel published only in Australia. Winter is plagued by nightmares. In her dreams, her love, Blake, is still alive. Graduating from high school, Winter should be making plans for her future but instead she is fighting to stay alive. As a Key the Demori are drawn to her. Sam, a member of the Bane, saves her life. Winter reveals to Sam her dreams of Blake. Sam’s family offers to help her find Blake as long as she gives them something in return. They want entrance to the Dead Lands. Overall I enjoyed the story. However, I must say it seems every YA paranormal book I’ve read has a similar pattern. Either the male hero dies or disappears at the end of the first novel so the sequel revolves around getting said hero back. This gives the second book an entirely different feel from the original book. In the case of “Winter’s Light,” the author used this sequel as an opportunity to reveal historical information about where Blake and the Demori came from, which was an interesting concept. Even though some of my favorite elements from the first story were missing, I plan to read the third book because when you are left dangling on a cliff you have to know if you are destined to splat or if you will land on your feet.
