I don’t know how you stand it.” “When we all smell the same…” He shrugged. “But I don’t smell in such a vulgar manner.” He leaned forward and sniffed. “Aye, you do.” Cunning narrowed his eyes. “You will do well to remember who financed this little venture.” He leaned back and crossed his arms over his chest. “And you will do well to remember who brought the venture to your attention in the first place.” Cunning blinked and scoffed. "I know you’re used to people giving you deference because of your title or your place in society, but out here, I’m king. And right now, we’re on a treasure hunt and we’re doing it my way. So sit back and enjoy the scenery.” He walked away. “What scenery?” Cunning voice was squeaky. He couldn’t stop his laughter.

I’ve heard tales about you.” Red flooded Magnolia’s face. What kind of tales could Vernon be referring to? If it was the fire at Odell, or her escapades with him, then the holiday could be ruined before it began. “I hope nothing too horrible.” Magnolia placed a napkin on her lap. For her example of normality, he still sensed her tenseness. “Not at all. Your father sings your praises often.” So the man had heard tales that might sway a suitor. Jules was at it again. Justin needed to speak to the fellow on the hunting trip. The man didn’t need to find Magnolia a suitor—her future husband was right in front of him. 2/10/2017 8 Comments Fast Fiction FridayWelcome back to Fast Fiction Friday! Rumors that Basil Thornton was arrested for being the man behind Tyrrel and that you acted inappropriately.” So he just threw that out at the end. Inappropriate behavior. Was he meaning the fire? Oh, she hoped not. Her throat constricted. “I contacted Sir Kennaway, but so far he has not returned my inquiry.” “Father—” “I knew when I sent you to Odell that it was a fantasy. You fall in love with a knight and live happily ever after in a castle—what was I thinking.” 2/3/2017 10 Comments Fast Fiction FridayWelcome back to Fast Fiction Friday! The young fellow had recently received the title of Baron of Eure. Lucky bloke. Cunning sipped at a glass of sherry and Emmett’s collar tightened like a noose about his neck. Few in high society knew of his past, fewer still would dare to share it about the ton, but Cunning wasn’t one of them. He’d sell his mother’s soul to the devil if he thought he’d make a pence. Did he know? “Do tell me how you discovered Tyrrel’s involvement in stealing the Crusader’s Cross.” Emmett pointed a trembling finger in Hesper’s direction. Confidence, he needed to display more confidence. “Ah, so the self-absorbed Miss Rotherham brought the plot to your attention.” The statement held the hint of a question. Emmett swallowed and nodded. His lips quivered. “Aye.” |
