Well let me inform you of the situation. Secret information has been stolen. We believe this information is being passed from one individual to the next until it reaches its destination, through this very grove.” “Oh, really?” said Teresa fighting to control her quivering voice. “Yes, we do. And do you know what else we know?” His grin broadened and he crossed his arms over his chest. She lifted her chin with false confidence. “I haven’t the faintest idea.” “We know that a young woman will be delivering this information. Today. So you see why your presence brings me sadness.”

She placed her hand over her open mouth. “I know what you’re thinking. Well, maybe I don’t. I probably don’t want to know.” He grinned. “Anyway, I know flowers, chocolates, jewelry, and those kinds of things turn a girl’s head, but I have no money. And besides, you seem like a lady who enjoys the simpler, more practical pleasures in life. So I brought you this.” She tilted her head. Would he continue this insanity? An egg, indeed! “I can see from your expression you don’t understand what I went through to get this.” He rubbed a spot between his brows. “Let me explain. 4/7/2017 0 Comments Fast Fiction FridayWelcome back to Fast Fiction Friday! She looked as if she might have come from a California beach. “Marley, you want to make a bet?” “Sure, Stephanie. What’s the bet?” “I bet I can make tall, dark, handsome, and new forget all about Maddie before the week is up.” Yep, more newbies around. Excellent. Marley scratched a pen lid against her forehead. “I don’t know. He seems pretty into her.” A shadow fell across his desk. “Ladies, you should not be talking.” “Sorry,” said Stephanie. Chase started to say hello, but the teacher dropped a thick book on his desk. The flimsy metal legs vibrated beneath him. 3/31/2017 0 Comments Fast Fiction FridayWelcome back to Fast Fiction Friday! Finished charting, she strolled through the two rows of beds. She shuddered to a halt. Fighting the tremble in her voice, she asked a nurse opposite her, “Where’s Jack?” “Oh, he’s gone.” Fear squeezed her heart like someone held it in a vise. She clutched the nearest bedframe for support. “Gone? Where?” The nurse pointed upward. Raylyn covered her mouth and gasped. “Don’t worry. He’s in a much better place.” 3/24/2017 0 Comments Fast Fiction FridayWelcome back to Fast Fiction Friday! The kids all turned at once, and the ladder rocked. “Whoa!” yelled Janie as she reached for the gym mats attached to the wall to try and keep the ladder from toppling over. The ladder stabilized, and she looked down to find a tall man, his head covered in a cowboy hat, holding the ladder in place. “Come on down, miss. I’ll hold it steady.” Frozen with fear, it took a few moments for her to move. He said, “Am I going to have to come up and get you? I can do it, but then I’ll be putting both our lives in the hands of these kids down here, and I don’t think you want me to do that.” Janie shook her head and slowly descended. When her foot touched the ground, she felt unsteady. She shot her hand out, and it landed on the well-muscled arm of the man before her. “Are you okay?” he asked, drawing his brows together. She nodded and closed her eyes as she waited for the stars to disappear. “I’ll be fine if you can just give me a minute.” 3/17/2017 3 Comments Fast Fiction FridayWelcome back to Fast Fiction Friday! Drop dead gorgeous and an accent to boot! Get a hold of yourself, girl. He’s staring at you. Hannah reached forward and placed her weight on both feet. Pain radiated up her leg, and she collapsed against his chest. The feel of his sweaty skin beneath her palm caused her heart to skip a beat. All rational thought left her. Before she could move, Rory swept her into his arms and carried her to the porch and settled her on a chaise. “Don’t move,” he commanded. She nodded. Wild horses wouldn’t drag her away. If aliens descended and tried to kidnap her, she would strangle them with her bare hands. She wasn’t going anywhere. 3/10/2017 10 Comments Fast Fiction FridayWelcome back to Fast Fiction Friday! Did he notice the worn carpet, the wobbling ceiling fan, the chipped paint? Maybe inviting him over hadn’t been such a good idea. “I love what you’ve done with the place.” She tensed. Was he being sarcastic? “The dark brown accent wall goes well with the dark couch and blue throw pillows.” She knew she stared, but she couldn’t help it. Had he just complimented her color choices? Red flushed his cheeks. “I decorated my own apartment, with the help of my mother. She loves to talk colors—she was an interior designer.” So he had a good relationship with his mother. That made one of them. 3/3/2017 0 Comments Fast Fiction FridayWelcome back to Fast Fiction Friday! Justin clenched the bag in his hand. “I’m ready.” “As am I. Father must be worried sick. I hope he is well.” Now she was back to worrying, and sorrow tinged her voice. Continued happiness seemed to be too much to hope for. He wrapped his arm in hers. “Let’s look at our journey as an adventure, a mystery.” She rolled her eyes. He needed to give her a focus. “I don’t know how many islands are off the coast of Spain, but what if we pretend we are searching for a lost island—one that has never been found.” 2/24/2017 4 Comments Fast Fiction FridayWelcome back to Fast Fiction Friday! "I know you’re used to people giving you deference because of your title or your place in society, but out here, I’m king. And right now, we’re on a treasure hunt and we’re doing it my way. So sit back and enjoy the scenery.” He walked away. “What scenery?” Cunning voice was squeaky. He couldn’t stop his laughter. 2/17/2017 0 Comments Fast Fiction FridayWelcome back to Fast Fiction Friday! What kind of tales could Vernon be referring to? If it was the fire at Odell, or her escapades with him, then the holiday could be ruined before it began. “I hope nothing too horrible.” Magnolia placed a napkin on her lap. For her example of normality, he still sensed her tenseness. “Not at all. Your father sings your praises often.” So the man had heard tales that might sway a suitor. Jules was at it again. Justin needed to speak to the fellow on the hunting trip. The man didn’t need to find Magnolia a suitor—her future husband was right in front of him. |
