Did he notice the worn carpet, the wobbling ceiling fan, the chipped paint? Maybe inviting him over hadn’t been such a good idea. “I love what you’ve done with the place.” She tensed. Was he being sarcastic? “The dark brown accent wall goes well with the dark couch and blue throw pillows.” She knew she stared, but she couldn’t help it. Had he just complimented her color choices? Red flushed his cheeks. “I decorated my own apartment, with the help of my mother. She loves to talk colors—she was an interior designer.” So he had a good relationship with his mother. That made one of them.
